Bios Departmental Seminar- ” Molecular mechanisms for synaptic vesicle recycling” by Liang-Wei Gong
September 17, 2020
4:00 PM - 5:00 PM
Abstract
Exocytosis of synaptic vesicles is a fundamental process mediating brain function; subsequent endocytosis to regenerate the synaptic vesicle is essential to maintain synaptic transmission. Malfunctions in exocytosis and endocytosis have been linked to many human neurological diseases. Therefore, understanding molecular mechanisms of synaptic vesicle recycling is essential for not only our understanding of the basic function of our brain but also providing potential pharmaceutical tools to treat neurological diseases. In this talk, I will provide you an overview of work from my lab and discuss roles of synaptotagmin 1, TRPM7 and S1P/SphK1 signaling in synaptic vesicle recycling.
