LIN Seminar: “Why Do We Sleep: the Molecular Basis of Sleep Homeostasis” by Dr. Ravi Allada (Northwestern University)
February 24, 2022
4:00 PM - 5:00 PM

Join us virtually on Feb. 24, 2022 for a LIN seminar featuring "Why Do We Sleep: the Molecular Basis of Sleep Homeostasis" by Dr. Ravi Allada (Northwestern University)
Abstract: My laboratory is interested in understanding the molecular nature of the sleep homeostat, how waking experience (sensory or clock-driven) is sensed by the sleep homeostat, how the homeostat triggers sleep and how sleep restores the brain to baseline conditions. We are applying genetic, genomic, circuit manipulation, and high-resolution analysis of sleep behavior to address these questions. Our work reveals new genetic pathways controlling sleep, interactions between the circadian clock and sleep homeostasis, and a potential functional role for a novel deep sleep stage in flies
