Title: Molecular and cellular mechanisms in disrupted motivation
Abstract: Our research is focused on understanding cell subtype molecular mechanisms that underlie altered cellular and circuit outcomes in disrupted motivation across the lifespan. We explore these mechanisms in preclinical models of substance use disorder and stress. We use viral mediated gene targeting and transgenic mice to reverse these molecular adaptations in specific cell subtypes to improve cellular, circuit, and behavioral outcomes. Our studies are uncovering new insights into cell subtype mechanisms occurring with altered motivation that are relevant for neuropsychiatric disorders and substance use disorders.
